Think Twice Before Getting a Nose Job!

“Let me introduce myself – I am Rhinosaurus ex, and here is my tale.”

Before getting a nose job, it’s important to consider the potential outcomes and reactions from those around you. While some people may notice that you got a nose job, others may not even realize that you’ve had any work done. It really depends on the extent of the procedure and how subtle or dramatic the changes are.

It’s also worth noting that getting a nose job is a personal decision and should not be influenced by others’ opinions. If you are considering this procedure, make sure to do thorough research, consult with a reputable surgeon, and understand all the potential risks and benefits involved.

Day 1

  • 11th July 2015

Recounting my recent rhinoplasty experience and offering advice for those contemplating a similar journey. The treatment at Princess Margaret hospital in Windsor was characterized by professionalism, with a supportive staff, including the anaesthetist. The surgery lasted 1.5 hours, and the anaesthetic was applied swiftly and with minimal discomfort. Although the recovery phase has been challenging, with some soreness, it has been manageable. Adhering to the post-operative instructions, such as taking arnica pills and using cold compresses, is crucial for minimizing swelling and bruising.

After the operation, discomfort and congestion are expected, yet they gradually improve over the following days. The initial 24-48 hours post-surgery are cited as the toughest, with issues like sleeping difficulties and the necessity to sleep in an upright position. Swelling and bruising usually peak around days 2-3 before gradually subsiding.

Day 3

  • 12 Jul 2015

On the third day, the bruising around my eyes began to lessen, shifting the focus to congestion. It is imperative to resist the temptation to blow one’s nose and carefully adhere to the aftercare guidelines. As recovery progresses, certain normal activities can be resumed cautiously, avoiding strenuous actions and following a gentle recovery regimen.

Day 4 recovery

  • 13 Jul 2015

Progressing through the recovery journey, gradual improvements in swelling and discomfort are noted. Managing pain and discomfort with prescribed medication and following healthcare provider instructions are crucial components of the healing process.

Day 5 Recovery

  • 14 Jul 2015

At this stage, efforts concentrate on managing any remaining swelling and discomfort. Adhering to the post-operative care plan and communicating any concerns with healthcare providers are essential steps during this phase.

Day 6 — nearing cast removal!

  • 16 Jul 2015

Approaching cast removal day brings a mix of excitement and nervousness. Preparing mentally and emotionally for this pivotal moment in the recovery journey is critical. Following surgeon’s instructions and maintaining a positive attitude facilitate a smooth recovery process.

Day 7 – goodbye cast, hello freedom!
  • 17 Jul 2015

Prior to surgery, apprehension regarding the outcome lingered. The post-op journey included a slow car ride and garnering attention with my cast. Finally, the cast removal revealed my new nose profile, a relief considering the positive outcome. While my nose appeared straight and satisfactory, the adjustment period was necessary.

11 days post

11 days post

  • 20 Jul 2015

Post-surgery, swelling persisted, necessitating a calm approach to recovery. Avoiding disruptive activities and anticipating daily improvement in swelling were primary concerns.

Day 13: Almost back to normal
  • 23 Jul 2015

By day 13, swelling reduction initiated a return to normalcy. While awaiting final results, optimism prevailed, marking a hopeful progression in the healing journey.

A nose job has the potential to transform one’s appearance by enhancing facial features. The nose’s shape significantly influences facial aesthetics, and a successful rhinoplasty can elevate one’s self-assurance.

1. GoodbyE smoking and drinking

To ensure a smooth healing process, avoid alcohol and smoking two weeks pre- and post-surgery. Providing a comprehensive medical history and adhering to post-op care instructions are vital for optimal results.

2. No kissing!

Avoiding impact or pressure on the freshly operated nose is crucial in preventing damage. Practicing caution during interactions, particularly in the initial healing phase, is advised to avert complications.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECOVER FROM A NOSE JOB?

The initial recovery period lasts approximately 7-10 days, but complete healing may take up to a year.

3. Get some contact lenses

To mitigate nose bridge pressure during healing, abstain from glasses or consider special nasal splints. Careful maintenance of the new nose ensures the longevity of surgical results.

4. Work from home (if you can)

4. Work from home (if you can)

Favorably, the acceptance of remote work facilitates outdoor job roles, recommending remote work during initial bruising. Avoiding strenuous activities for a few weeks is advised. Returning to the office post-10 days usually witnesses reduced swelling and bruising. Extending the recovery period to indulge in a fulfilling experience during this time is also encouraged.

5. Buy more pillows!

During the nose’s bone and cartilage healing phase, sleeping elevated on the back is advisable. Enhancing comfort with additional pillows is key to ensuring quality sleep. Initially, blocked nasal passages may necessitate mouth breathing, and nasal bleeding may occur, cautioning against nose blowing and endorsing saline solutions for nasal care.

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is a surgical procedure designed to reshape and enhance the nose’s size and aesthetics. Whether for cosmetic or medical reasons, rhinoplasty can be a life-altering choice.

The nose significantly contributes to facial symmetry and balance, with rhinoplasty offering the potential to enhance facial harmony and elevate overall aesthetics. Ahead of undergoing a rhinoplasty, familiarizing yourself with essential facts is crucial for a well-informed decision.

Post-consultation with your plastic surgeon, exploring before-and-after photos of previous patients can shed light on potential outcomes. Assessing the naturalness and similarity of results to your expectations is paramount.

Ask Questions.

Prior to any surgical procedure, addressing concerns and clarifying queries is essential for informed decision-making. Inquiring about rhinoplasty options and goal attainment can refine expectations and ensure optimal results.

Have realistic expectations.

Delineating your aesthetic goals with your surgeon is imperative for realistic expectations. Embracing individuality and uniqueness is crucial, steering clear of unrealistic ideals or seeking perfection.

Workers’ downtime post-rhinoplasty is advised, allowing for a 10-14 day break to facilitate complete recovery. Following surgery, adhering to prescribed medications, resting, and maintaining a slightly elevated head position are essential. The cast removal typically occurs 7-10 days post-op, enabling a gradual return to daily activities.

The Final Results.

Awaiting final rhinoplasty results may span up to a year post-op, signaling the completion of the healing journey.

The initial swelling should decrease within 4-6 weeks after the rhinoplasty procedure, but it will continue to diminish over the following months, with the final results becoming visible after 12-15 months. Patients with thicker skin or ethnic noses may experience prolonged swelling. The tip of the nose may remain more swollen than the rest of the nose, and patients might feel numbness for up to 6 months, which is normal.

Will People Notice I have had a Rhinoplasty?

A successful rhinoplasty should enhance your natural facial features and harmonize with your facial structure. The goal is to make subtle changes that complement and balance the overall appearance of your face.

At The Private Clinic, our team consists of highly skilled plastic and reconstructive surgeons who have years of experience in delivering natural-looking rhinoplasty results.

Are there any alternatives to surgical rhinoplasty?

For individuals with minor irregularities in the nose bridge, a crooked nasal line, or a desire for a more refined nose shape, non-surgical rhinoplasty can be a suitable option. However, it’s essential to note that non-surgical rhinoplasty offers temporary results lasting between 6-18 months, depending on the patient.

Can I exercise after a rhinoplasty?

Following a rhinoplasty, it is crucial to refrain from exercising for at least 3-4 weeks to prevent bleeding, swelling, and bruising. Avoiding contact sports or activities with risks of injury is recommended for a minimum of 6 weeks.

Wearing glasses after a rhinoplasty.

Patients who wear glasses should avoid doing so during the initial stages of the healing process, as it could impact the surgical outcomes. It may take up to 6 weeks before patients can comfortably wear glasses again.

Will I have scars after a rhinoplasty procedure?

Many patients are pleasantly surprised by the minimal scarring following a rhinoplasty. The procedure requires small incisions due to the confined area and natural shape of the nose.

  • In open rhinoplasty, incisions are made at the base of the columella, resulting in minimal scarring visible only from below.
  • Closed rhinoplasty involves incisions made within the nostrils, leaving no visible scars.

Your surgeon will discuss the selected technique and scar placement during your consultation to ensure you make an informed decision before proceeding with rhinoplasty surgery.
